Tibrogargan Circuit

4.1 km return… Allow 1 hr 30 min

The Tibrogargan circuit is the easiest of the Mount Tibrogargan walking tracks and is a super family friendly 4.1 km circumnavigating the mountain. You get great views of Tibrogargan itself as well as views of other mountains of the sunny coast hinterland. There are some rocky steps and an undulating path but mostly it is pretty flat and easy.

Trachyte Circuit

5.7 km return… Allow 2-3 hours

The Trachyte Circuit is also an easy, family friendly 5.7 km walk through open woodlands crossing small streams. It’s a longer walk and can be combined with the Tibrogargan Circuit as the tracks overlap and you will get to enjoy the highlights of both walks.

Soldiers Settlers Trail

5.4 km one way

The Soldiers Settlers trail is a shared trail for walkers, trail runners and mountain bikes that runs 5.4 km one way between the Tibrogargan and Beerburrum trailheads.

The track is not well signed and we got lost on our first attempt. I recommend studying the map and referring to a Google Maps satellite image (or similar) in preparation. A loop has also been mapped out so you can start and finish at the Tibrogargan trailhead… you can find it here.

Climb Tibrogargan

2.7 km return… allow at least 2 hours

A well worn trail leads up to the summit of Tibrogargan. But be warned… this is not for the faint hearted or inexperienced. I recommend you do your homework before setting out. I climbed it when I was 21 and I have to admit I found it really challenging and I spent most of the climb wondering if I was going to need a rescue helicopter to come and get me. Lots of preteen kids were zooming past me as I clung tight and step by step, tentatively scanned the rock for a foothold.

If you are more physically confident and agile than I am, you might like to climb Tibrogargan and be rewarded with spectacular views of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Alternatively, you can sit and watch the climbers from the lookout about 1 km in along the Tibrogargan Circuit.

Be Prepared..

When visiting Mt Tibrogargan you will want to take a hat, sunscreen, bug repellant, water and a first aid kit. Wear clothing suitable for bushwalking including shoes with decent grip. You will need to bring all your own drinking water!

There is a toilet block and some picnic tables at the base of the track. A word of warning though… the toilets can get pretty feral at peak times and there is no soap dispenser (only a basic tap and sink for hand washing).

Getting There

From Brisbane: 1 hour (72 km) From Caloundra: 33 mins (35km)

The Tibrogargan trailhead, where all the walks start, is located about 30 minutes from Caloundra and only short drive off Steve Irwin Way making it a great activity during your Sunshine Coast adventure.
